The Oak Bay Barbarians defeated St. Michaels University School in the 29th annual senior boys Gareth Rees Boot Game at Wallace Field. The Boot Game dates back to 1995.
Rees, who is often considered Canada’s greatest rugby player and is a member of the IRB World Rugby Hall of Fame, was in Grade 12 at SMUS when coach Ian Hyde-Lay arrived for the 1984-85 season. Oak Bay won 41-3. After 29 outings the Barbarians lead the rivalry series 16-12-1.
